Awful service and total incompetence. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else.
After paying an entire fee up front, I waited patiently for nine months for a simple case to be taken care of. I was then rebilled for the amount I had already paid for, and then discovered that my issue had not even been resolved.
Mr. Popkins is the absolute best lawyer for any type of driving violations in my opinion. Very professional and very expedient. Also I feel that his prices are quite reasonable compared to what other lawyers have quoted.
In December of 2007, I was charged with Posession of Stolen Property. I had just turned 18 and my dad hired Mr. Popkins to handle my case. After being bonded out, Mr. Popkins told me and my dad that he would get the charges dismissed and I could go home (I lived in Virginia). On July 27th, 2010 at 2:30 in the morning, I was taken from my house by the bondsman I had used 2 1/2 years prior and taken to the Onslow county jail. Apparently I missed my court date, which was oddly in Febuary 2010. Mr. Popkins had been continuing my case for over two years, without my knowledge or consent. He then told my inquiring family members that he would take care of it all the next day (July 28th). I spent the next 25 days in jail without a single word from him, and despite repeated calls none of my family could reach him. When I finally went to court and explained why I didn't show up for a court date 2 1/2 years after I was charged, I explained how Mr. Popkins had assured me I didn't have to show up and that my charges would be dismissed. Mr. Popkins laughed nervously and denied ever doing so. This guy is a real piece of work. Oh, and while I was locked up I also met one of his other clients, who had charges from 2003 and basically had the same thing happen to him. AVOID THIS SCHEMING DECEITFUL BASTARD AT ALL COSTS. Oh and another thing. My truck had been impounded, so my dad also paid Mr. Popkins $1000 in advance to secure the truck once the police would release it. Mr. Popkins never did so, and I lost my truck. My dad has filed a formal complain with the Bar Association, and if God is good, this scumbag piece of trash will not be a lawyer for much longer. Though maybe he will, he already has 7 other citations on his record. Please please please, save yourself the money and the trouble.
Finally, a family member that is an attorney in another state sent a letter for me to help get the issue resolved.
